Sadly,My Eyes Were Opened: Diary of A Politician
"All That Is Necessary for The Triumph of Evil
Is That Good Men Do Nothing"
                                    Edmund Burke
Carol Etzler wrote a hymn entitled,"I Wish My Eyes Had Not Been Opened" to see all of the cruel things that we do to God's children." I
wish MY eyes had not been opened, then I would need to do something!  A beautiful , gracious and picturesque historic town meld the forces
of good and evil like the broken images of a kaleidescope . When my vision cleared, the world I knew was forever changed. As an advocate
for justice for sexually abused children, I drew the ire of some law enforcement personnel who had been accused of child molestation; and
my children and  I have been harassed for the last decade by local, state, and federal officers with frequent stops, many, many traffic tickets
and citations, and a car  impounded on Christmas Eve.

A young black girl from a modest broken home was an unlikely candidate for the second most powerful position in a southern and
traditional city that was the scene of a race riot only one hundred years earlier that destroyed the lives of many successful blacks. But doting
grandparents, a solid Roman Catholic upbringing, and a strong and loving mother provided the incubator for creating a strong, independent,
compassionate, and outspoken woman who refused to turn a blind eye to evil and injustice. My heritage encompassed all of the culture of the
old South. I am black, white, American Indian, and Jewish. I was ready to conquer the world! After earning a college education and escaping
two broken marriages, I returned to my roots with plans to help the folks in my hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina  experience the
American dreams of peace, prosperity, and happiness.

My life soon paralleled a Hollywood movie: Enemy of the State was a film released in 1998 starring the actor, Will Smith. Billed as a thriller,
it was the story of a young successful lawyer whose life was thrust into turmoil when he stumbled upon information that could implicate
some high-level government officials. The story could have been ripped from the pages of my life as I stumbled into the political corruption
in North Carolina politics. I wandered blindly into a system beset with  the theft of federal block grant money, police
brutality, and child abuse. Hollywood hails the lives of corporate whistle blowers such as Erin Brockovich,Norma Rae, and Jeffrey Wigand.
They are cast as heroes, but there are no Hollywood heroes among the thousands of government whistle blowers who suffer retaliation,
threats, intimidation, harassment, and financial hardship on a daily basis. And the Supreme Court's decision last year that disallows whistle
blowing as a protection under the First Amendment, Freedom of Speech, will succeed in dis incentives for Americans to
speak-up, when the purest act of patriotism is protecting our nation from crimes against humanity, corruption, and government waste.
Democracies die behind closed doors, and yet, most whistle blowers pay dearly for their candor at the hands of governmental agencies that
were established to protect them. At sixty-two years old, I was falsely arrested.

The acts of retaliation and harassment against whistle blowers have become so wide spread that some of the individuals have organized. The
organization is known as TI for targeted individuals. Our numbers are in the hundreds of thousands. We are activist, whistle blowers, and
honest American citizens who love this country and are determined to bring attention to this cancer on our democracy.

Wilmington, North Carolina is the personification of gracious living, southern hospitality, gentility, and charm. It stands like a grandiose
sovereignty on the banks of the Cape Fear River. It is recognized as the"City of a Million Azaleas” and is  East coast home for Screen Gems
studios and the fastest growing university in the South. Wilmington reigns as the economic and cultural heart of southeastern North
Carolina.

But even in the "Garden of Eden," knowledge becomes a burden. Wilmington is also home to the 2nd highest crime rate in the state of
North Carolina and remains on the FBI's list of high crime areas. The chances of being the victim of a robbery are 1 in 230 in Wilmington,
higher than Los Angeles where the robbery rate is 1 in 270. It is the home to a police department drowning in allegations of police brutality,
sexual misconduct, and cover-ups. It is the home to a department that has had six chiefs in eight years;
some of whom were ineffective because they were mired in the three B’s: babes, booze, and boys. After the selection of a police chief from
Nebraska who was entangled in allegations of misconduct and child sexual abuse, chaos reigned supreme in the department for years amidst
rumors of threats, intimidation, and sexual exploitation that sparked the birth of a very perverted police underground newspaper. The latest
departing chief left a memo with the following quotes: “I would describe the PD current status as coming apart at the seams," and referring
to a fellow officer, “ I would recommend he be moved to professional standards for his own protection."

Across town is the Sheriff's department. It is common knowledge that a night in the county jail could prove to be deadly. But not to worry,
investigations regularly exonerate law enforcement of all wrongdoing.  The New Hanover County Sheriff's Department  has the distinction of
four deaths in four years, including an eighteen year-old college student who was shot through a closed door when a seven-member SWAT
team went to his house to question him about the theft of a play station. The Sheriff's Department is also the home of deputies who engage
in sex with the inmates and provide them with their drug of choice.

My beautiful and historic city has also become a haven for pedophiles. A friend revealed how several high profile attorneys in our
community travel with young boys wherever they go.  A single middle-aged attorney was relentless in my financial destruction after I
became an advocate for the children. A businesswoman was found guilty of fifty-five counts of sexual harassment and some of the victims
included children. Our former police chief , Bob Wadman, was the subject of a book entitled, "The Franklin Cover-Up," written by
former Nebraska State Senator, John W DeCamp, which accused him of numerous crimes against children. I became embroiled in this sick
world of pedophiles when a parent asked me to help her get a copy of a police report that she had filed following the molestation of her
twelve-year- old son by the Executive Director of an after school program funded by the city. After two frustrating years I managed to get
the police department to file a written  report of the complaint. The City ceased funding the program. The school system withdrew its
support and its students from the program; however, no one was ever prosecuted, and the perpetrator still works with children in
Wilmington. The general public finds it hard to accept the fact that most pedophiles come in three-piece suits and have families. They are
not bums or homosexual. In fact, I have many gay friends who would never, ever harm a child.

As a council member for fourteen years, I was the only member who voted against a resolution sponsored by the Council to support the war
in Iraq.I fought the system of corruption, racism, lawlessness and pedophilia. I also questioned our city 's efforts in thwarting illegal drug
traffic. In frustration ,I wrote a book entitled, Under Oath: Memoirs of an Honest Politician, that chronicled my first few years on Council . I
exposed deals that misappropriated millions of dollars in federal block grant money. I revealed how so many decisions made by the Council
were decided long before the public participated. I wrote about the pedophiles in our community who still work with our children and hold
positions of power without anyscrutiny.I addressed the problems of police brutality that has  overwhelmed the City for years.

I was not prepared for the events that followed the publishing of my book. I would soon learn that these people would resort to any means
necessary to remain anonymous, including, harassment, intimidation, and character assassination. They destroyed anyone who dared to
question their corruption. I dared. I paid dearly. Retaliation was swift, relentless, and cruel. With the help of the New York Times owned
local paper,Chuck Reiz, the editorial writer, assassinated my character on a daily basis.

On a November night in 2002, I was arrested leaving a restaurant. I was accompanied by Doug, the PI officer, who habitually followed me
home after I began receiving death threats...However, within ten minutes of my departure from the restaurant, a patrol car sped in between
my car and Doug's. As I turned into the dark and isolated road leading to my home, a police cruiser confronted me. I immediately pulled to
the side of the road assuming that there was a mistake, but the officer approached me and ordered me to "get out of the car." "You are
being arrested for drunk driving." Fear clutched my chest as I stood in the shivering cold. "But, "Officer", I said, "That is
impossible, I have had very little to drink and I will be happy to take a pre-arrest Breathalyzer." "No," he replied, "No pre-arrest
Breathalyzer, you're going to jail." I was stunned and afraid for my life as I recalled two recent harrowing police stops that involved my
daughter. The officer cuffed me with my hands behind my back, placed me in the back of the patrol car with the orders, "Slide your fanny
over." At the jail, I blew .00 TWICE  on the Breathalyzer and the officer still arrested me. The negative publicity costs me my career, my
job, my home, and the destruction of my financial security.

I filed a law suit against the city for my false arrest, and a federal judge ruled that everything that Officer Nevitt did to me was proper,
correct, and within his authority, and that he had immunity. Federal Judge Louise Flanagan was moved to a Raleigh Court to handle my
case  out of the jurisdiction  of Wilmington where it belonged. She dismissed my case by ruling that a police officer has the right to stop,
interrogate, and arrest anyone suspected of having a single drink. Her brief never addressed the seventy-four page City of Wilmington
internal police investigation that found that the officer had violated fourteen department polices and was fired. The Court of Appeals in
Richmond upheld her decision and the US Supreme Court refused to hear the case. The US Department of Justice immediately found
"Probable cause" and accepted the case for investigation. Before they even began their investigation, they dropped the case. I traveled to
DC to meet with my case worker and denied entrance to this public building by armed guards.

Financial destruction was eminent. While city workers held a fund raiser in the park for the arresting officer, I was informed on Christmas
eve by Mickey at General Electric that they would no longer need the services of my company after a successful twelve-year run. GE left
with an outstanding invoice of $26,000 dollars which a Mr. Darland promised to pay after receiving a letter from my attorney. However, that
debt has never been paid. For two years I sought to renegotiate my home mortgage with Suntrust Bank. NO ONE could "find" my loan. I
finally sent certified letters to the CEO and all members of the Board. In an attempt to save my home, I filed bankruptcy, but the bank still
foreclosed. The bankruptcy court allowed me the legal North Carolina homestead exemption. To date, Suntrust has refused to pay.

I moved to Miami, Florida seeking respite from the hostility, harassment, and intimidation of  North Carolina law enforcement and landed on
the shores of Miami only  to find that "the long arm of the law " knows no boundaries. I can count on police harassment wherever I go with
unnecessary stops ,character assassination, and lies circulated among my friends and acquaintances. Sadly, my two children, both attorneys,
have paid dearly for my candor with their careers. During my journey,I found paradise in a gated community on the waterway  in Florida
with a marina and a million-dollar view called "Mystic Pointe." "Paradise Lost" soon described my new home. Shortly after arriving in
Miami, five agents from Homeland Security breached three levels of security in the Florida complex where my daughter and I resided and
entered our apartment. When I demanded to know how they had gained access to the building, I was told that they came onto the property
via the marina in a Homeland Security boat. Your tax dollars are being wisely used to fight the "war on terror."A few dollars purchase
willing participants among friends, neighbors, roommates, and even church members who have no careers, limited income, and limited
intelligence for all manner of "sick" activities. Tax dollars are used to pay their affiliates to spread lies, innuendo, and character
assassination. The pay is good and the bonuses include exotic vacations, cars, and high paying jobs for those lucky enough to have a skill or
trade. The poor fools don't realize that once their services are no longer needed, they are watched constantly and/or destroyed to prevent
them from revealing what they know.

Domestic surveillance reigns supreme in the USA today as our tax dollars are being used to eavesdrop, harass, and intimidate American
citizens. SA Graham,Sibel Edmonds  and Mike German are former FBI agents who left the agency because they were no longer willing to
conduct electronic surveillance on political US officials. Their website, The National Security Whistle Blowers Coalition will astound you as it
reveals the level of domestic surveillance.

But I am not alone. The pedophiles and politicians use police to arrest informants everywhere. And anyone who has ever challenged a police
department will confirm that they are harassed for the rest of their lives from coast to coast. I know them, I have met them. They, too, have
web sites describing their lives. Mexican journalist, Lydia Cacho, was falsely arrested, blindfolded, and driven over a thousand miles with a
gun to her head because she exposed the pedophile crimes of a wealthy businessman now living in the US. Her story
chronicled in her book, Demons of Eden, sold forty thousand copies the day that it was released in Mexico and is scheduled for release in the
US later this year.I continue to ponder if the groups and individuals who have worked so hard to destroy my life and my credibility are
unwitting pawns of the perverts, drug lords, and corrupt politicians or are they sympathizers or participants?  I am not sure what is more
offensive, their"sickness" or their ignorance. Thankfully, their "arms are too short to box with God."
